Description: Tea Okropiridze a gifted artist, and internationally award winning tapestry weaver joins us to provide detailed instruction in tapestry loom weaving. This is a portable introduction to the techniques of weaving, and the frame looms provided will be available to take home and use during the time between classes.
This class concentrates on basic tapestry weaving techniques by creating a miniature woven tapestry on a small frame loom. Class will cover warping the loom, horizontal stripes, vertical lines, hatching, dovetail and weft interlock joins, irregular shapes, contour, and soumak weaving techniques. Tea will work closely with students in class and provide individual guidance and demonstrations. No previous weaving experience is required.
Three class sessions $150.00
$40 fee for materials and loom rental for duration of classes, payable to the instructorat time of class. Supplies needed: Students are encouraged to bring a variety of commercial or handspun yarn for use in their weft weaving, including different colors, textures, and weights.
Tea Okropiridze was born and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia. She received her first degree in 1994 from Nikoladze Arts College, majoring in Sculpture. In 2002 she received an Honors Degree from the University of Art and Culture in Artistic Weaving/Tapestry. She moved to the US with her husband in 2002, and they established a studio in Virginia. Tea has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, and teaches at The Art League School in Alexandria, VA, and the Academy of Georgian Heritage in Rockville, MD.
