Lace Forensics Sunday January 29, 10am - 1pm Description: Channel your inner Sherlock Holmes and join us on a lace forensics adventure! If knitting lace is something you’ve shied away from, begin the new year off right and tackle it head on. In the morning session we’ll discuss the history and mechanics of this technique, discuss the differences between lace knitting and knitted lace, learn to translate a written lace pattern into charted form, learn to knit lace from a chart, and decode a lace swatch and turn it into a chart.
Materials for morning session: • 200 yards worsted weight single ply light-colored yarn • Size US 8 (5mm) 16” circular knitting needle • Stitch markers
Embrace The Lace!Sunday January 29, 2pm-5pm Description: In the afternoon we’ll knit the popular Luce Cowl, inspired by our very own Luce Foundation at the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery here in Washington, DC. We will also discuss adding beads to lace. Get over your fear of lace and leave feeling confident and ready to knit that lace pattern you’ve had your eyes on.
Materials for afternoon session: • 285 yards sport weight yarn for cowl (lighter colors are recommended) • Size US 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular knitting needle • Stitch Markers • Optional 3mm beads if you wish to add beads to your lace • Optional .75mm crochet hook if you wish to add beads to your lace
Homework for afternoon session: • CO 144 sts, join into round being careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beginning of round. • Work four rounds of garter st - [knit 1 round, purl one round] twice.
