Cashmere Farm Adventure! Where: 17334 Brookdale Lane, Round Hill, VA 20141 (map)
Description: Join me, and Kathy Reed of Solitude Wool, for a day long cashmere experience at Briesbrook Farm. Learn everything from harvesting cashmere fiber, to dehairing and spinning it into your own lovely cashmere yarn. We’ll gather at Kathy’s farm for a brief history on cashmere, stories of raising her goats, an introduction to Abbott & Costello, and their five goat friends, and a fiber harvesting demonstration. We’ll break for lunch, and follow with a hands-on workshop in dehairing, carding, combing, and spinning this precious fluff into a luxury yarn.
Notes: Lunch is not provided, please plan to bring your own.
Class will take place in a heated barn, but please wear appropriate footwear for walking outdoors in the goats’ enclosure.
Solitude Wool is hosting a trunk show of their breed-specific fiber and yarn during the lunch break from 12-1:00 p.m. For those of you interested in exploring more to do in Loudoun County, or perhaps planning a weekend visit, the Artisan Trail Network provides info on nearby lodging, restaurants, vineyard and brewery tours, and other fiber farms and artisans to visit.
Supplies: Spinning wheel, empty bobbin, fine fiber hand cards, double row mini or fine fiber combs, brown bag lunch. Class is suitable for intermediate spinners, and some long draw experience will be helpful, but is not required. We will have some hand cards and combs available to use, and Strauch Fiber Equipment's 5” Cotton/Fur Hand Carders for sale.
Class Fee $100, and includes cashmere spinning fiber
