Description: Have a braid that isn’t speaking to you? Or do you just want to learn more methods for making gorgeous yarns with braids you love? In this two part class, co-taught by Caroline Hockenberry and Michele Duell, of The Colorful Flock, learn how to deconstruct a braid and remix it for a delightful spin.
The morning session will begin with demonstration of some basic techniques, and spinning tips to create fractal, marl and multi-ragg yarns, followed by Michele demonstrating how to: 1. Shade and extend your braid 2. Make a braid into a gradient 3. Use your braid to make a set of coordinated yarns with additives and friends Along the way, she’ll show you how to use common tools to make fauxlags, blended rovings, and batts using braids from her stash.
In the afternoon, we’ll discover the hidden paintbox in your stash! Dig into some of the morning’s techniques with your wheel and your braids for this hands-on workshop in fiber blending. Blending boards, and drum carders will be provided, and hand cards and combs will be available for you to use, but feel free to bring your own. With guidance from Michele, and me, experiment with as many of the morning techniques as you like! Fiber will be available to add to your concoctions. You’ll go home with lots of samples and lots of ideas to apply to your stash. Find some new an inspiration for your SPALPAL braid!
